The Railway Children (Band) Tickets

The Railway Children have reunited to play a series of U.K dates to mark the 30th anniversary, of their 1986 debut single “A Gentle Sound”, on Factory Records.

Formed in Wigan in 1984, by vocalist, guitarist Gary Newby, guitarist Brian Bateman, drummer Guy Keegan and bassist Stephen Hull, the band found UK Indie chart topping success early on with “A Gentle Sound”, their debut album “Reunion Wilderness”, and second single “Brighter” in 1987.

With melodic guitar fuelled melodies that fused elements of The Smiths, R.E.M and post-punk pop, the band soon found major label interest.

The move came in 1988, to Virgin Records, and the release of their second album, “Recurrence”, saw tours further afield in Europe, and the U.S. While the singles "In The Meantime", "Somewhere South" and "Over and Over” all displayed a growing depth to Newby’s songwriting, a national chart hit eluded them.

The break came in 1991, when ”Every Beat of the Heart”, from their third album “Native Place”, became a Top 20 hit in the UK, and a No. 1 hit on the newly founded Modern Rock Tracks chart in the U.S.

These will be the first live dates the band has played since parting ways in 1992. Don’t miss it.
