Social Justice: building a fairer and more equal society
Thursday 23 June 7pm
Friday 24 June
Saturday 25 June until 1.00 pm
University of Worcester, St John’s campus

Challenging questions about social justice are being raised across all spheres of public life. What aspirations do we have for social justice? Do our public policies reflect a set of values which could enable us to achieve a fairer and more equal society?

The University of Worcester and the William Temple Foundation are holding a conference to explore these issues in the contexts of faith, education, health, welfare, public policy, economics, gender and sexuality.

The Conference opens with a free public lecture in the Cathedral on Thursday 23rd June 2016, 'Faith in the Public Sphere? - in search of a fair and compassionate society for the 21st century' delivered by Professor Chris Baker, Director of the William Temple Foundation and Professor of Religion and Public Life at the University of Chester.

Delegates can follow their interests and choose a pathway from a programme which includes over 30 speakers from universities and other organisations from America, Australia, Israel, Canada and the UK, led by four outstanding keynotes:

Professor Jon Glasby is Head of the School of Social Policy at the University of Birmingham and Professor of Health and Social Care, and will be speaking on ‘What’s next for health and social care?’

Professor Pat Thane, Research Professor in Contemporary British History, Kings College London on ‘Social Justice in an Ageing Society’

Professor Morwenna Griffiths, Chair of Classroom Learning, University of Edinburgh, on ‘Approaching the heart of the matter – A posthumanist perspective on ethical educational practices’

Professor Philip Goodchild, Professor of Religion and Philosophy in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies, University of Nottingham, on ‘Debt, Finance and Social Justice’

NB: Advance bookings only (closing on 12 June 2016) – no tickets will be available on the day. Please note that tickets are non-refundable.
