HERITAGE OPERA PRESENTS MADAME BUTTERFLY

Nagasaki 1900: Cio Cio San (‘Madame Butterfly’) a naïve girl with passionate dreams of romance, marries Lieutenant BF Pinkerton of the US Navy. He soon leaves her to sail back to America, and Cio Cio San waits patiently for him for three years, refusing to acknowledge that she has been abandoned, and firmly believing he will one day return to claim her as his wife.

At last, Pinkerton’s ship, the SS Abraham Lincoln is seen on the horizon. For Madame Butterfly, however, there will be no happy ending.

Heritage Opera, the Northwest’s professional touring opera company (est. 2006), visits the Epstein Theatre for the first time with Puccini’s heart-breaking story of undying love and longing, presented in its own inimitable fashion. Liverpool soprano Sarah Helsby Hughes and tenor Nicholas Sales lead a professional cast of 10 singers, and the opera is accompanied by a 7 piece orchestral ensemble.

Sung in Italian with English surtitles.

Recommended Age: 10+
