Gorillaz are a British virtual band formed in 1998 by a collaboration between Damon Albarn of Blur and Jamie Hewlett, co-creator of the comic book Tank Girl. They had the idea to create the band while watching MTV in their London flat and originally intended to call the project Gorilla.
Gorillaz have released three albums: Gorillaz (2001), Demon Days (2005) and Plastic Beach (2010).
Gorillaz have received eight BRIT Award nominations: six in 2002 and two in 2006. In 2006, Gorillaz received their only Grammy Award, the Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals award for the song "Feel Good Inc." The band has received five nominations from the MTV Europe Music Awards, winning three of them: Best Dance Act and Best Song for "Clint Eastwood" in 2001, and Best Group in 2005. At the MTV Video Music Awards, Gorillaz received both the Best Special Effects and Breakthrough Video awards for "Feel Good Inc." in 2005. Overall, Gorillaz have received thirteen awards from fifty two nominations.
