Blas 2017 takes place across the Highlands between 1 and 9 September celebrating Highland culture.
Mànran, Skerryvore, Sharon Shannon, Duncan Chisholm, Donald Black, Sian, Fuaran, Màiri MacInnes, Iain MacFarlane, Breabach, Hecla, Ireland’s Fidil and Cape Breton’s MacIsaac and MacKenzie will all be appearing. Laren MacColl’s Fèis Rois commission The Seer will feature while Fèis na h-Òige will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a Skipinnish concert in the IronWorks, Inverness.
Renowned Gaelic singer, Kenna Campbell, will return to Dunvegan for a special 80th birthday celebration performing alongside friends and family. Button-key accordion king Fergie MacDonald’s 80th will be celebrated at Fort William’s Nevis Centre. In Scalpay, Blas will celebrate Morag MacLeod’s contribution to Gaelic culture with a special Cèilidh featuring her choice of singers and musicians. Morag received the Services to Traditional Music at the Scots Traditional Music Awards a few years back having had a long career at the School of Scottish Studies.
Rev William Matheson’s contribution will be marked in this year’s Blas commission Dìleab Uilleim (William’s Legacy) while Hugh Dan MacLennan, Gary Innes and crew will celebrate Shinty’s Heroes, including Ballachulish piper and composer Willie Lawrie, at an event in Kinlochleven.
