Fuaran with Rona Lightfoot & Margaret Stewart

The Fuaran project was established by Fèisean nan Gàidheal to encourage the next generation of Gaelic singers to research and collect songs from within their local communities. Following a very successful start to the project in 2017, a further 7 participants have been involved in the second stage of Fuaran and they will showcase the songs they have collected during 2019 in this celebration of Gaelic song at the iconic Inverness Town House.

They will be joined by two of the finest Gaelic singers and tradition bearers we have; Margaret Stewart and Rona Lightfoot. Both Margaret and Rona have performed extensively and are in much demand for ceilidhs, concerts and tuition right across the globe.

Chrissie Denny @ 80

Chrissie MacDonald, or Chrissie Denny as she is more widely known, is one of Barra’s finest singers and tradition bearers. A fine selection of traditional singers and musicians join her tonight to celebrate her 80th birthday in Northbay Village Hall.

The Barra audience will give a warm welcome to Mary Ann Kennedy, Allan MacDonald, Alasdair Whyte, Còisir Ghàidhlig Bharraigh and the ‘Cèilidh King’ Fergie MacDonald.

Ingrid Henderson & Iain MacFarlane with Margaret Stewart

Lochaber musicians Ingrid Henderson and Iain MacFarlane have performed far and wide with some of the leading acts in traditional music including Cliar, Blazing Fiddles, Boys of the Lough and the Glenfinnan Cèilidh Band.

More recently they released their duo album ‘Cockerel in the Creel’ in May 2019, featuring the very best of traditional music on piano, clàrsach, fiddle and button box.

They will be joined by renowned Gaelic singer Margaret Stewart from the Isle of Lewis. Margaret has a great passion for the Gaelic song tradition and culture of the Highlands and has performed at a number of Blas concerts over the years, including her highly acclaimed Blas 2012 commission ‘A’ Bhanais Gàidhealach’.

A night of Highland Music, Gaelic song and community awaits you in Farr.

Pitcalzean Concert

Pitcalzean Masterclass Weekend

With funding from the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo (REMT) Youth Talent Development Fund, Fèisean nan Gàidheal are delighted to be running the inaugural Pitcalzean Masterclass Weekend for young musicians aged 16-26 in the beautiful surroundings of Pitcalzean House in Ross-shire.

This concert will feature the extremely talented line-up of tutors; Sineag MacIntyre, Frank McConnell, Sarah Hoy and Fin Moore. They will be joined by the Cape Breton sister duo Dawn and Margie Beaton who make their long-awaited debut at the Blas Festival.

Gaelic song, fiddle and pipes and dancing aplenty makes for a great concert.

One of the finest, distinctive voices of her generation Kathleen MacInnes continues to wow audiences both at home and abroad. Her effortless style has seen her gain numerous awards and acclaim over the years and she remains in much demand for ceilidhs, concerts, festival and TV appearances. Kathleen will be accompanied by award winning musician, producer and composer Mike Vass.

Dawn and Margie Beaton from Mabou, Cape Breton were dancing at age four and started playing the fiddle a year later. Over the years they have performed at concerts, ceilidhs and festivals all around Nova Scotia, Scotland, Ireland, France, USA, England, Brazil and China. The Blas Festival is delighted to welcome them for the first time!

Originally formed as part of a project commissioned by Fèisean nan Gàidheal for Blas 2016, Sian make a welcome return to the festival. Their repertoire focusses on songs by female bards, and showcasing the strength and beauty of Gaelic song. They are joined by Innes White to create a powerful collective sound.

Cairdeas nam Piobairean

A stunning line up of our best pipers showcasing the wide and colourful range of pipes and styles that represents piping in Scotland today. Highland Pipes, Reel Pipes, Border Pipes and Scottish Small pipes.

The impressive line-up of Dr. Angus MacDonald, Angus McColl, Angus MacKenzie, Fin Moore with Sarah Hoy, Gary West and Brighde Chaimbeul will have the audience enthralled from the outset.

Gary Innes

Highland born accordionist, composer, Shinty has-been, BBC Presenter, founding member of leading trad outfit ‘Mànran’ and 'Instrumentalist of the Year' Gary Innes and award-winning band perform in concert.

A musical journey full of tunes, songs and tales of his life with a good healthy dose of craic, featuring Ewen Henderson, Kim Carnie, Steve Byrnes and Hamish Napier.

Glenfinnan Ceilidh Band

West Lochaber has always been fertile ground for attracting and nurturing traditional talent and this grouping of musical giants is testament to that. All based in or near Glenfinnan village, the Ceilidh Band members include stalwarts from the traditional music world who are as at home playing large concert venues as intimate bothy cèilidhs.

On fiddle is Iain MacFarlane (Blazin’ Fiddles), Colm O’Rua (Daimh) on banjo, Iain MacMaster on accordion and Ingrid Henderson (Cliar) on piano. Formed for the sheer fun of playing good music together their unique blend of West Coast dance music will get your toes tapping.

Project Smok with Feis air an Oir

Making their Blas debut, Project Smok is a trio which comprises of multi award-winning musicians Ali Levack (Pipes & Whistles), Pablo Lafuente (Guitar) and Ewan Baird (Bodhrán).

Continuing their rise to becoming a recognised and household name in the Traditional Music Scene, Project Smok brings together an array of musical aspects; immense instrumental virtuosity, blistering drive, infectious rhythm, delicate sensitivity…

They will be joined by the up and coming musicians of Fèis Air an Oir, who are no strangers to the Blas festival.
