The William Kennedy Piping Academy aims to bring a new dimension to the teaching and appreciation of uilleann piping through a comprehensive tutorial programme or immersion course, covering all aspects of performance as well as the making and maintenance of uilleann pipes under the direction of universally respected pipers and artists.
PRICE - the course costs £115.50 (incl. booking fee) and includes the following:
ACADEMY TUITION - There will be 8 hours teaching in small groups. Students will have 3 sessions with their main tutor (to be decided on Saturday morning) plus a further session with a different tutor. Tutors will include Pádraig McGovern, Kevin Rowsome, David Power, Eliot Grasso and Mick O'Brien.
PIPE MAKING & MAINTENANCE CLASS - 3 hours in our dedicated uilleann pipe workshop with resident pipe-maker Eamonn Curran.
LECTURES - On Friday there will be a lecture entitled "Pipers of Monaghan" by Dr. Seán McElwaine, while on Saturday there will be a discussion/interview entitled "Pipers and their Pipes" with David Power and Kevin Rowsome.
MEALS – All meals will be provided in Armagh City Hotel - Dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings, and Lunch on Saturday and Sunday.
FESTIVAL PASS – Free entry to all events* from Friday to Sunday including uilleann piping performances by Paddy Keenan, John McSherry, Cillian Vallely, Sheila Friel, Maitiú Ó Casaide, John Tuohy, Tiarnán Ó Duinnchinn, Jarlath Henderson, the academy tutors and many more. (*N.B. does not include tickets for Liam O'Flynn concert on Thursday 17th Nov)
ACCOMMODATION - accommodation is not included in the package this year but the festival will be able to offer assistance to anyone who requires it. We have special rates available at a number of local hotels/B&Bs.
