Birmingham The End

The nightspot previously known as the Hummingbird and the Academy in Birminghams Dale End is set to reopen its doors once again. The venue, which has been closed since the O2 Academy moved to the site of the former Dome Nightclub in 2009, will reopen under the name The Birmingham Ballroom, according to a website set up by the new owners. The move is set to breathe new life into a building which initially went by the name Top Rank in the 1970s, when it played host to bands like The Clash and Ramones. After it became known as The Hummingbird, 90s rock bands such as Nirvana and Sonic Youth graced its stage before it closed and reopened as the Carling Academy in 2000 with a launch night headlined by Moseley band Ocean Colour Scene. The new club will contain three rooms ? The Ballroom, The Other Room and The End ? and will open in late September.
