Writing Short Fiction Workshop Tickets

CIT, in partnership with Comma Press, present a short fiction creative writing course led by claimed author Sarah Schofield. The course opens with a session looking at short story as a genre. The session is self-contained and will also act as an introduction to a more in-depth short course, taking place during November and December 2015.

This project is part of CIT's sponsorship of Comma Press' forthcoming anthology of new writing, Nouvelle Espionage, to which all writers are invited to submit short fiction, whether or not you participate in this course. Full details of how to submit your work are here.

6th October 2015 7 – 9pm

Open session: How do short stories work?

An opportunity to explore what makes the short story genre unique. We will discuss specific examples, the nuts and bolts of crafting short fiction and we’ll think about what makes a great short story; how do they work and how do short stories affect us? We will compile a resource toolbox of ideas, starters and stimuli for writing short fiction.

Nouvelle Espionage Creative Writing Workshops

Following the Oct 6th session, we are running an in-depth course looking at writing short fiction. Over the course of three workshops, you will get the chance to have your writing professionally and peer critiqued, develop your craft and storytelling techniques and explore new genres and approaches. We will try some writing activities and share our ideas in a relaxed, fun, inclusive and positive way. All who have an interest in creative writing are welcome, no matter how much or little writing experience you have.

You will have the opportunity to develop a piece of fiction for submission to a new writers showcase anthology with Comma Press, La Nouvelle Espionage. The anthology will present a unique kind of challenge to emerging and previously unpublished writers to write a short story centring on espionage, breathing new, contemporary life into a genre which is increasingly blighted by clichés and stereotypes.
