The Christians + Hue & Cry

The Christians + Hue & Cry

THE CHRISTIANS, the outstanding, soul influenced group who had hits in the late 80’s and 90’s including ‘Forgotten Town’, ‘Harvest For The World’, ‘Born Again’, ‘Ideal World’, andHooverville’, are celebrating their 25th anniversary with a date at ROYAL COURT THEATRE LIVERPOOL on Sunday December 16th 2012, to coincide with the release of their brand new album SPEED OF LIFE plus Deluxe Anniversary editions of their first two multi million selling albums The Christians and Colour.

THE CHRISTIANS followed up their 1987 self-titled million selling debut album with the number one hit album ‘Colour’in 1990, which heralded the magnificent tracks Words’and ‘Father’, whileThe Daily Mirror described the voice of Garry Christian as “the best voice of the decade”.

The name THE CHRISTIANS refers simply to the brother’s surname AND HAS ABSOLUTELY NO RELIGIOUS CONNOTATIONS!! (the original line-up included Roger, Russell and Garry, as well as Henry Priestman) and the band were also renowned for the strong messages and morals in their songs.  During their rise to fame the Liverpool based band packed out international and UK stadiums and developed a reputation for being ‘socially aware’ …. unsurprisingly comparisons were drawn to The Temptations due to the depth, range and warmth of the brother’s vocal harmonies.

Brothers Patrick and Gregory Kane formed Hue and Cry in 1983. The duo made a huge impact in the late 80’s with the albums ‘Seduced and Abandoned’ and  ‘Remote’ as well as massive hit singles such as ‘Labour of Love and ‘Looking For Linda’. Albums followed including ‘Stars Crash Down’ and ‘Jazz Not Jazz’ that ensured Hue and Cry’s continued triumph in the 1990’s, whilst the release of the hugely applauded ‘Open Soul’ in 2008 brought them firmly back into the limelight. The release of their seasonal album 'Xmasday' (2009) and live album 'Bitter Suite, Again' (2010), preceded the release of ‘Hot Wire’ (2012) which received rave reviews. To date Hue and Cry have sold in excess of two million records worldwide.

In 2015 the brothers have returned to the live scene with both their piano & vocal format and their live full on band appearing at numerous venues and festivals. This year is the centenary of Frank Sinatra’s birth an artist whose career has been a huge influence on Pat and Greg’s musical style. To celebrate they have recorded ‘September Songs’ a covers album dedicated to the original Chairman of the Board.

Hue and Cry have sold tens of thousands of concert tickets worldwide, as well as performing alongside some of the greatest artists in music history, appearing with U2, James Brown, Madonna, Al Green and Van Morrison to name but a few. The duo were recognised by their peers when they were presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Scottish Music Awards.
