Britten, Four Sea Interludes
Walton, Cello Concerto

Vaughan Williams, Serenade to Music (orchestral version)
Elgar, Cello Concerto

Steven Isserlis (cello)

Join Bath Philharmonia for a unique programme in which internationally highly-acclaimed cellist Steven Isserlis performs two of the greatest English Cello Concertos as part of an evening celebrating the very best of British orchestral music. At a century old this year, Elgar’s Cello Concerto is one of the most loved of all English works; its passionate melancholy combined with intense virtuosity continues to thrill audiences throughout the world. Walton’s Cello Concerto, written in the 1950s, is fully of rhythmic drive and orchestral colour and is widely considered to be a masterpiece. Although, Steven Isserlis has released an album featuring both works, this will be the first time he has played them together in concert. Accompanying these concerti is Britten’s wonderfully atmospheric Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes and Vaughan Williams evocation of a beautiful garden in the moonlight in the orchestral version of the Serenade to Music.
