Pond Tickets

Hello everyone, welcome to the little piece of writing about the band Pond. This won’t take long, I promise.

In 2008 – memory tells me it was summer – good friends Joseph Ryan (Mink Mussel Creek), Nick Allbrook (Tame Impala, Mink Mussel Creek) and Jay Watson (Tame Impala) were sat under a mulberry tree, (lot Lotus, alas, Buddhist references end here) in Daglish, Perth, where the they lived in a happy little home on Troy Terrace with their friend Kevin Parker (Tame Impala) who sometimes plays on and mixes their albums.

Anyway maybe it was the Mulberry tree, the sunlight or something in their tea that morning that inspired them enough to write the tropical lo-fi psychedelic pastiche that became Psychedelic Mango. A fun listen, if you can steel your ears and tolerate the minutes of white noise which invariably accompany every half sensible pop song.

The idea of Pond was to be able to get anyone they wanted to play whatever, whenever, in a completely ego free kind of trip all under the big obligation-less blanket of “Pond”. This resulted in the next album, Corridors of Blissterday being recorded live with an 8-piece band in 5 days sometime in 2009.

Then I’m afraid to say they got too into Prince and Fleetwood Mac, so they accidently made pop funk classic Frond which was released on boutique Sydney label Hole In The Sky in September 2010.

They also made this little 7” single Greens Pool, that was released in Jan 2011 (like everything else except Frond) on the West Australian label Badminton Bandit.

Now you can buy their new album Beard, Wives, Denim they recorded in a farm down south of Perth, Western Australia. The fine folks at Modular Records thought it was such a great record they decided to release it worldwide and with a great amount of fuss in March 2012. Now Pond consists of the original three, plus our friend Cameron Avery (The Growl) on drums and Jamie Terry (The Silents) on keyboards and other things.

We hope y’all enjoy.

Much love, Pond.
