Dakhla
Dakhla brass comes to Stroud full of energy drawn from international influencesArmed with just a trumpet, two saxophones, a trombone and a drum kit Dakhla Brass have embarked on a magical exploration of the richness of brass music as celebrated around the world. Their distinctive fusion boasts echoes from the deserts of Rajasthan to the souks of North Africa, the carnival parades of the Caribbean and the downtown bars of Louisiana.

Each of its five members came to Dakhla Brass bursting with musical accomplishment in fields including jazz, Latin, rock, folk, soul, ska, R’n’B and swing. All of this shines through in the band’s music, but their (highly) original compositions are much more than the sum of those parts. The Dakhla Brass sound gives even these excellent musicians the chance to take things to a higher level.

In under five years they have released three albums of original music, carefully honing an identity with intricately written musical tapestries woven from glittering brass threads. The sheer quality of their music has caught the ears of BBC Radio 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 while their live performances have included sharing prestigious stages with top international contemporary outfits, including the Youngblood, Hypnotic and Hot 8 Brass Bands.

Get The Blessing
Formed in 2000 to share a fascination with the improvisation and monophonic nature of Ornette Coleman’s earlier works and throughout this time, the line-up has remained the same throughout with Portishead rhythm masters Jim Barr and Clive Deamer on bass and drums respectively, Pete Judge on trumpet and Jake McMurchie on saxophone. For this particular gig the excellent Matt Brown stands in for Clive Deamer while he has honors other comitments.

Since the release of All Is Yes in February 2008, they’ve taken their musical vision round the world with successful tours and festival appearances in the UK, USA, Canada, Ireland, Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Dubai, Turkey, Macedonia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Serbia.

Vels trio hail from the shores of Brighton; the three members met through a shared love of jazz, progressive music and that feeling you get when in a deep groove.
They combine a plethora of styles, structures and rhythms in a bid to transcend preconceived notions made with regards to jazz and other more obscure genres. The trio have once been coined as ‘stealth jazz’ as they have the ability to make a crowd dance away and not even realise they’re listening to jazz, subtly converting the crowd. Equally many jazz fans have felt that Vels trio provide a fresh sound and a modern perspective on the jazz scene. These three have an ever-expanding repertoire, having recently performing their own rendition of the Blue Note classic, Madlib's 'Shades Of Blue'. Their focus, however, remains on their own scintillaing original compositions. They are sure to hold nothing back once on the stage!

We are also delighted to welcome Stroud's very own Barney Whittaker (aka Footshooter), now also based in Brighton, who will be on the 1s and 2s til late.

Can't wait for this one!!
