A band reinvigorated and inspired by a trip to Ethiopia, Hejira bring their lush expansive soundscapes, hissy beats and soulful vocal lines to Rich Mix.
After a hugely successful EP launch at Archspace the immensely talented group return to Rich Mix with some brand new material from their new LP.
Formed in 2010, the band have consistently caught the ear of many influential figures in music, releasing records on electronica don, Matthew Herbert’s label, Accidental Records and Floating Point’s, Eglo Records. They now release on their own imprint, Lima Limo Records.
Hejira’s latest body of work ‘The Lima Limo Ceremony’ is a project centred around the group’s visit to Ethiopia in 2016. Hejira travelled to Addis Ababa and spent time exploring the city, checking out live music, and writing new material. Upon their return to London the band entered into a prolific phase of creativity, fleshing out skeletal ideas that they had begun in Ethiopia, as well as writing new music from scratch as a means of digesting what they had experienced.
The resulting piece of work is perhaps Hejira’s most audacious release to date: a head-spinning collection of field recordings, hissy beats constructed from sampled Ethiopian cassettes, and diverse songwriting, all encased within a refreshing homegrown production aesthetic.
