Tears For Fears - Forest Live

Tears For Fears announce Forest Live gig

Tears For Fears have announced a special gig as part of Forest Live 2019, the summer concert series organised by the Forestry Commission.

Synth-pop pioneers Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith formed Tears For Fears in 1981 and with breakthrough single ‘Mad World’ and further top 10 hits, ‘Change’ and ‘Pale Shelter’ ensured No 1 status for their debut album ‘The Hurting’. Moving into rock and pop mainstream, follow-up album ‘Songs From The Big Chair’ propelled the band to international recognition. Powered by the world-wide monster hit ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’ and the anthemic ‘Shout’ the album remained in the charts for 81 weeks. At the forefront of the mid-80s British music invasion of the US, success continued both sides of the Atlantic with the platinum selling album, ‘The Seeds of Love’. Tears For Fears Forest Live set will include performances of their classic hits.

Jess Glynne - Forest Live

Jess Glynne has announced dates as part of Forest Live 2019, the summer concert series promoted by the Forestry Commission.

In 2014 a guest spot on Clean Bandit’s omnipresent pop-house smash ‘Rather Be’ brought Jess Glynne to prominence and with her debut album ‘I Cry When I Laugh’ the following year, she delivered one of the defining British pop records of the era. At the time of writing it has been a chart staple for 170 weeks with triple platinum sales. Her powerhouse vocal and fearless delivery have captured so many under her spell across a succession of hit singles such as ‘Right Here’, ‘Real Love’, ‘Hold My Hand’ and ‘Don't Be So Hard On Yourself’. Haceinda Classical - Forest Live

Hacienda Classical have announced dates as part of Forest Live 2019, the summer concert series organised by the Forestry Commission.

The wildly successful clubbing classical cross-over show Hacienda Classical has seen 5-star reviews and landmark shows at Glastonbury, Isle Of Wight Festival and London’s Royal Albert Hall among many memorable nights over the past three years.

The set is played as a continuous live DJ mix where vocalists, choir, orchestra and guests all combine to create a vibrant, exciting performance. Featuring the DJs who shaped the original Hacienda club sound, they perform alongside the Manchester Camerata Orchestra to recreate old school house and club anthems on an epic scale as dance heritage collides with the world of classical music.

The soundtrack and performance are updated each year but again it will include orchestral renditions of much-loved classic club records from The Hacienda’s heritage, revisiting some of the hits that have proved popular with fans as well as adding new arrangements of seminal tracks to the show.

With improvement year on year, 2019’s incarnation for Hacienda Classical will build on its reputation of being one of the very best and most energetic of shows and live experiences of recent years.

There are also some tracks from previous years that I'm keen to bring back and to make even better based on everything we've learned with all the incredible gigs so far. I'm determined to make this year's show even more exciting than we’ve had before."

Stereophonics - Forest Live

One of Britain’s best live bands, Stereophonics, have announced dates as part of Forest Live, the summer concert series promoted by the Forestry Commission.

Since their Best Newcomer Brit Award in 1998 in acknowledgment of their debut album, ‘Word Gets Around’, Stereophonics went on to become arguably the UK’s most popular rock band of the new millennium. Their ascendancy was driven by a succession of top ten hits such as ‘The Bartender and the Thief’, ‘Just Looking’, ‘Mr Writer’, ‘Have a Nice Day’ and ‘Dakota’ and No 1 albums ‘Performance and Cocktails’, ‘Just Enough Education to Perform’, ‘You Gotta Go There To Come Back’, and ‘Language. Sex. Violence. Other?’ Stereophonics continued their success with further gold and platinum records and released their 10th studio album, ‘Scream Above The Sounds’ in 2017. Throughout their career they have played at some of the biggest venues to fans across the globe, establishing a reputation as one of the best live rock bands around. Stereophonics’ Forest Live performances will feature material from across their extensive back catalogue.

Foals - Forest Live

Foals have announced dates as part of Forest Live, the summer concert series organised by the Forestry Commission.

From playing chaotic house parties in their home city of Oxford to becoming major festival headliners across Europe, Foals’ trajectory has been remarkable. They’ve earned critical acclaim (NME and Q Award wins, plus Mercury Prize, Ivor Novello and BRIT Award nominations) and fan devotion (1.7 million sales of their four Gold-certified albums, plus over half a billion streams at Spotify since 2015) in equal measure. And while the majority of contemporaries have fallen by the wayside, Foals continue to hit new peaks.

After more than a decade in the game, Foals again embrace that love for the unconventional with the bravest and most ambitious project of their career: not one, but two astonishing new albums: ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost’. A pair of releases, separate but related, they share a title, themes and artwork. ‘Part 1’ will be released on March 8th, with ‘Part 2’ following in the autumn.

Profoundly tethered but possessing their own personalities, the two bodies capture the most compelling, ambitious and cohesive creations that Foals – completed by Jimmy Smith (guitar), Jack Bevan (drums) and Edwin Congreave (keys) – have ever produced.

Eager to break the traditional pop song structure, the 20 tracks defy expectation. There are exploratory, progressive-tinged tracks which occasionally break the 10-minute mark alongside atmospheric segues which make the music an experience rather than a mere collection of songs.  Yet the band’s renowned ability to wield relentless grooves with striking power also reaches new heights.

The albums’ lead single ‘Exits’ is a case in point, featuring Philippakis conjuring the image of a disorienting world via a contagious vocal melody. It’s a fresh anthem for Foals’ formidable arsenal, but also an ominous forecast.

‘Exits’ signposts what to expect thematically from ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost’. The title is a warning that anything – from the tiniest fleeting moment of inspiration through to the planet’s own biological diversity – can be under threat of being irrevocably erased.

It’s a theme that permeates throughout the albums’ material, as Foals mirror the public neuroses that have been provoked by our current cultural climate. Paranoia of state surveillance? Fear of environmental collapse? An overwhelming feeling of anxiety? It’s all there in these apocalyptic songs.

It’s particularly evident in the euphoric ‘In Degrees’ which imagines a future where your ability to talk to each other has been reduced to nothing. This approach is perhaps most vividly captured on ‘Syrups’, and the devastating closing pair of songs on ‘Part 1’, ‘Sunday’ and ‘I’m Done With The World (& It’s Done With Me)’.

The new albums’ journeys began as the ‘What Went Down’ era ended. Founding bassist Walter Gervers departed on amicable terms after playing the Festival Paredes de Coura in Portugal in August 2017. Foals felt that he couldn’t be replaced – a decision that ushered in a period of recalibration, reorganisation and, ultimately, rejuvenation.

After taking a little time out, Foals reconvened with Yannis on production duties, who, together with Edwin, also covered the bass parts. They began by writing in a rehearsal space before exporting those sketches into the recording phase at 123 Studios, Peckham, with the assistance of engineer Brett Shaw. They’d repeat the cycle between the two spaces, effectively creating an ongoing feedback loop as they sought to push every new idea to the finish line.

Fans who pre-order ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 1’ from the D2C store will gain access to a pre-sale for the band’s UK and European tour. All pre-orders will also receive ‘Exits’ as an instant download.
