Sound records present a psychedelic spectacular to mark their second birthday in partnership with Stroud Valley Artspace.
Headlining this very special event are international psych explorers Flamingods who released their celebratory fourth album ‘Levitation’ in 2019. Inspired largely by the disco, funk and psychedelic sounds coming out of the Middle East and South Asia in the 70s, the album channels these influences through a vision soaked in mysticism, positivity and sun-drenched imagery.
The band have spent the last 10 years touring the world and getting people dancing to their unique brand of exotic psychedelia with big shows at End of the Road, Glastonbury, Green Man, Latitude, SXSW and more, not to mention multiple sessions on 6Music and appearances on Boiler Room and KEXP. A legendary live band this is one not to be missed!
In support is Graham Dunning’s Mechanical Techno. An extraordinarily eccentric and wonderful musical contraption. In real time Graham constructs a tower of home made locked groove records building up his mechanical dance rhythms layer by layer, triggering analogue synths, percussion and drum machines.
Opening the evening are Wooolheads featuring the closely knitted pairing of Sound Records’ very own Sean Roe and performance artist and poet Uta Baldauf. Together they produce jumpers of sweaty dance grooves and cardigans of electronic noise and poetics that are sure to get the party started!
Very special DJ guests on the night are Stroud's very own Dubbu and Mendoza, the duo who masterminded Stroud Block Party play a riotous mix of reggae, soul, funk and hip hop. The closing set of the night is provided by another Stroudie, Moina Moin who will keep us grooving to the early hours with her unique mix of afro, disco and house.
