Christmas at the Dancehouse
Drawing upon the essence of music and dance, inspired by the beauty and wonder of the Winter’s most wonderful time of year, Manchester City Ballet proudly presents its seasonal performance this December. The evening is brought to life with works from the timeless ballet ’Coppélia’ culminating in a range of dance works and song taking inspiration from classic to contemporary pieces.
In his cluttered workshop, an eccentric toymaker wishes nothing more than for his latest creation to come to life unaware of what mischief awaits. The toymaker is fooled by a local village girl, Swanhilda, that his creation has indeed come to life. Her deception is later revealed but all is soon forgiven concluding with the wedding of Swanhilda and her sweetheart Franz. Colourful costumes, lively characters and beautiful music by Léo Delibes all combine to create a magical and comical classic that warms and entertains.
The second part finds itself in a scenic park where the magic of Christmas is in the air. Friends and family come together, children frolic, play and skate and elderly gentlemen reminisce about yesteryear… one and all full of the joy that comes with this special night. Set to music and dance you know and love, including pieces such as the Radetzky March and the Trish Trash Polka. Other works include a pas de deux “Have yourself a merry little Christmas” as well as a Venetian Waltz.
Christmas at The Dancehouse’ is the perfect enchanting evening for dance enthusiasts and family alike.
