Bop Local Productions is run by three people: Tom O'Toole, Phil Beckett and Alison Bell. Between us, we handle all the music & guest DJs; promotion & marketing: posters/flyers design & distribution; plus social media. Other members of the team: roadie/DJ technician, Paul Clewarth; stand-in DJ, Mark Smith; plus administration & assisting on the door: Kate Hesketh and Clare Collins.
The name Bop Local is a take on the slogan 'shop local' from the award-winning Unicorn wholefood supermarket in Chorlton, Manchester. The first Bop Local club night took place in June 2010. The initial concept of Bop Local was to create a club night that would be aimed at people who like to go out to socialise and dance to music, yet don't want the inconvenience and cost of going into the city centre for their entertainment.
One of the straplines used for Bop Local is, ‘bringing the dancefloor to your doorstep’ which pretty much sums things up. Phil Beckett is the main Bop Local DJ. At each night, he also has a guest DJ ~ these have included: Mike Joyce, Clint Boon,Graeme Hawley,Jeff Hordley, Peter Hook, Tim Cocker & Jim Salveson,Simon Rimmer, Mike Sweeney, Liz Kershaw, John Thomson, Terry Christian, Cerrie Burnell, Leo B Stanley, Jason Boardman, Martin Coogan, Graeme Park....
