Beethoven Piano Concerto No 4 in G major Op 58
Brahms Symphony No 4 in E minor Op 98
The BBC Symphony Orchestra, familiar to music-lovers all over the world as the resident orchestra of the BBC Proms, makes a rare visit to Bath to bring this year’s Mozartfest to a close. The conductor is Alexander Vedernikov, former music director of the Bolshoi opera and ballet company in Moscow and chief conductor designate of the Royal Danish Opera; and the soloist is Steven Osborne, whose gifts as a poet of the keyboard are well matched to Beethoven’s intimate, lyrical Fourth Concerto. The Concerto is preceded by Smetana’s Bartered Bride Overture, an orchestral showpiece full of infectious Czech rhythms, and followed by Brahms’s profound and uplifting Fourth Symphony.
This concert is being recorded by BBC Radio 3 for future broadcast.
