Apollo Festival set to return to new venue in 2020

Following a three-year hiatus, Apollo Festival is set to return next summer.

The family-friendly festival will be taking place on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th July 2020 at its new home York RI, off Hamilton Drive in Acomb.

New for 2020, Friday night will be an intimate affair featuring acoustic acts and preparing the crowd for the Saturday, it will be a relaxed vibe eye opening setting! Previously the festival has seen the likes of Reverend and the Makers, Inspiral Carpets, Cast, Dodgy and Space top the event, drawing crowds from around the region.

The main event on Saturday will see four stages of signed and unsigned artists, a comedy stage, as well as our headline acts participating in ‘Question and Answer’ sessions throughout the day.

Similar to previous years, the Kids Quarter will return with tenpin bowling, hay bail climbing frames, face painting, arts and crafts, balloon modelling, storytelling and a childrens disco, as will the much-loved funfair, with activities to keep the entire family entertained.

A new addition to the festival this year is a stage run by Musicians Against Homelessness, who provide opportunities for up-coming talent to play in our acoustic tent and raise money for homelessness services around the Yorkshire region.

An array of street food, drink, craft beer and cider will be on offer, however festival goers will be permitted to bring in their own food and unopened soft drinks and water (no alcohol).

Local businesses will be given the opportunity to get involved and play a major role in York’s premium family festival, giving exclusivity to these businesses to show case there company and also give their employees VIP experiences they never forget.

Stuart Kelly, Director of Apollo Festival, said:

“Following a break, we feel the time is right for Apollo Festival to return. We pride ourselves on being a family-friendly festival and providing a fun environment for everybody to enjoy.

It’s fantastic to have the likes of Musicians Against Homelessness on board, not only to see the acts they will bring, but in being able to raise awareness to their cause.

We’re excited to be at our new venue and bringing in the additional evening on the Friday is a new experience that we hope, in addition to the usual Saturday, people will also enjoy.”
