    Space

Space are a britpop band from Liverpool, who released a few prominent records (including top 20 hit single “Female Of The Species” and the songs “Ballad of Tom Jones” and “Avenging Angels”) and then fell back into obscurity, eventually splitting up in 2005. In 2009, following the death of ex-Space drummer Andy Parle the band members met at his funeral and this broke the ice between them. The band have now reformed and are working on a new album due for release in May 2012. They are notable for lead singer Tommy Scott singing in a very Liverpudlian accent - see “Neighbourhood” or “Me and You vs The World”. The band also experimented with dance versions of their tracks - notably “Growler”, the last track from their debut album.

Despite accusations of being a comedy or novelty act Space had more depth than may be immediately apparent - “Female Of The Species” was written as a tribute to Tommy Scott’s late father, who loved Frank Sinatra. Scott wanted to write a song his father would have enjoyed.
