    Playhouse Creatures

    Playhouse Creatures

'Life's like a storm. Don't get in its way.'

It is 1660. Charles II has decreed that women will be allowed to take to the English stage for the first time. Nell Gwyn would doing anything to be one of those women. This play follows her and four other notable women of the day as they struggle to be seen as legitimate acting talents, rather than just objects of sexual desire—mere ‘Playhouse Creatures’.  Brave, bawdy, fragile and flawed: they show us what can happen when we fall but also what we can achieve when social boundaries are pushed.
