Midway through 2014, Halsey – New Jersey-raised singer Ashley Frangipane’s nom du tune – dropped her first single, the haunting, glitchy “Ghost.” She self-released it despite almost universal discouragement.

The song, however, touched a nerve with a growing fan base, who promptly downloaded it.

That confidence is certainly warranted. Since signing to Astralwerks, Ashley has built upon the initial fan fervor and reached the top of Twitter’s and Billboard’s viral charts. Additionally, the announcements of her EP pre-order, web store, and 2015 tour all made her a worldwide trending topic on Twitter. She ultimately landed at #2 on Billboard’s Twitter Emerging Artists chart and peaked as the #1 artist on Billboard’s Trending Twitter Chart. She was also named one of Vevo’s top 20 artists to watch in the coming year. This all culminated with each date of Ashley’s first headlining tour, the American You(th) tour, selling out within an hour and with some of the dates selling out in mere minutes.
