Band on the Wall presents Future Vibes – an all-dayer of emerging artists that are making waves and pushing the boundaries of alternative music, featuring Liverpool indie-psych outfit The Vryll Society, dark-jazz singer/songwriter XamVolo, pop-rocker Zuzu, post-punk band LUNGS, shoegaze five-piece Tremors, avant-garde singer/songwriter and pianist Charlotte Cannon. With live music and Only Joking Records DJs from 4pm, discover some fresh new talent on Saturday 20th May at Band on the Wall.
THE VRYLL SOCIETY
The Vryll Society continue to mesmerise and enthral with their wonderful groove-laden sound. Having built up a strong fanbase following the release of their debut single Deep Blue skies and last EP “Pangea”, they recently released double A side “Self Realization and La Jetee” to brilliant reviews. A UK tour, with Blossoms followed by their own headline tour earned glowing reviews and heralded some eagerly anticipated festival appearances, including the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury last year. Their latest offerings take the audience further into their world of liquid jams and wonderfully crafted songwriting.
XAMVOLO
At the age of 23, XamVolo seems wise beyond his years. A true artist, he oversees every element of his music, which he describes as “a messy mind over raw, dark jazz grooves”. Since moving to Liverpool to study in 2012, the Londoner has embraced himself in the local music scene with his unique and enigmatic take on Neo-Soul and Jazz. Influences from Erykah Badu, Miguel, Frank Ocean and Maverick Sabre echo in his music, with a gospel-infused sophistication and often abstract lyrics.
ZUZU
Zuzu is a 22-year old Liverpool-based pop-rocker. Wielding her guitar, Zuzu mixes catchy hooks and wavey rhythms with a punk edge and swagger.
“Taking influence from the likes of Pavement, The Beatles and Bright Eyes, Zuzu incorporates grungy guitars and a killer chorus, creating a chaotic taster into Zuzu’s contagious punk-infused sound” – The Line of Best Fit.
LUNGS
LUNGS are a newly-formed post-punk outfit that recently dropped their debut EP ‘Kelham Steel’ to great reviews. Skiddle described their sound as “distinct vocals splayed over an ethereal rock soundscape, complete with melodic bursts”.
TREMORS
TREMORS are a Manchester based 5 piece playing a unique blend of shoegaze, alternative and americana. “Sunkissed melodies, airbrushed sonics and chiming guitars…the missing link between Laurel Canyon classicism and the current Manc dream-pop scene.” – Manchester Evening News
CHARLOTTE CANNON
Charlotte Cannon’s music hints at old jazz artists like Eartha Kitt and Nina Simone; evocative and sultry. While also drenched in the idiosyncrasy and outlandishness of artists like Tom Waits and Bjork. However, you can try to pick and pull out comparisons to other artists, but she’s really an artist of her own.
