Dr Syntax and Pete Cannon are well-established names in the British hip hop scene, both as a duo and as solo artists.
Hailing from British towns not exactly synonymous with hip hop pedigree ( Banbury and Blackpool respectively), they nevertheless display a knack for crowd-pleasing bangers and on-point rap skills, all delivered with tongues firmly in cheek.
They released their debut collaborative album, the aptly-named ‘Killer Combo!’ in 2014, featuring an impressive list of guest vocalists – Del The Funky Homosapien (Gorillaz/Heiroglyphics), Dirty Dike (High Focus) Jehst, Lunar C, Eva Lazarus and Jman, and followed this up with 2015's 'Elaborate Anoraks', featuring Res One and Upfront (Split Prophets) and Kathika (Slamboree/Red Eye Hi Fi).
Dr Syntax cut his teeth touring with legendary hip hop crew Foreign Beggars, after appearing on their debut album ‘Asylum Speakers’ in 2004. He has since released many well-received solo albums, including 2007’s ‘Self Taught’, widely regarded as a UK hip hop classic, and toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe.
Syntax is also frontman and frequent collaborator with Manchester-based nine-piece hip hop band The Mouse Outfit, regularly tearing up club and festival stages alongside rappers Sparkz and Truthos Mufasa. Their debut album, ‘Escape Music’, was voted ‘album of the year’ in 2013 by readers of Wordplay (the UK’s foremost hip hop magazine). It was also featured by US News website ABC in their annual list of best worldwide albums, a feat they repeated the following year with their second album 'Step Steadier'.
Pete Cannon has been making beats for most of his life. He has produced for the likes of Action Bronson, Guilty Simpson, Maffew Ragazino and Punchline (EMC), and has had his music played on none other than DJ Premier’s radio show. He has worked extensively with the UK’s biggest hip hop label, High Focus, notably producing the 'High Focus Remixes' album, released to celebrate the label's 5th Birthday. He produced a Top 10 chart hit for UK pop sensations Rizzle Kicks (‘Lost Generation’), as well as releasing electronic music under the pseudonym Opal Block, on esteemed UK label Astral Black records. If all that wasn’t enough, he is also known to tear up a rave with an all-vinyl jungle set alongside rising star Jman on MC duties.
