Delia Derbyshire Day Tickets

A special event honouring the 80th birthday of electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire (1937-2001).

Electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire (1937-2001) would have been 80 years old on 5 May 2017. We honour this anniversary with a Heritage Lottery Fund-supported event increasing the awareness of and creative engagement with the DD Archive at John Rylands Library. Delia is most famous for her iconic realisation of the original Dr. Who theme in 1963, and her fascinating archive reveals much more of her inspiring work and working methods.

With special guests who knew and worked with Delia, we delve into her archive to explore and honour her technical skills, creative spirit and the working methods of her time. We will also present a new audio collage of archive material that is not in the public domain and present performances by commissioned artists who have produced a creative response to Delia's inspiring archive.

Featuring:

How we made the Dr Who theme”, an entertaining talk by Delia’s colleague & friend Dick Mills.

Archive sharing discussion with Dick Mills, Brian Hodgson and Mark Ayres from The BBC Radiophonic Workshop who worked with Delia.

New audio collage of archive material compiled by David Butler with accompanying video inspired by the DD Archive by Andrea Pazos.

New artist commissions responding to the DD Archive by composer Manuella Blackburn and painter/visual artist Tracey Zengeni.

Performance of a DD Day 2016 commission “The waking sleep” by The Architects of Rosslyn, with a live electronic and acoustic soundtrack to a ‘dream sequence’ collage of films by artist Di Mainstone.
