Christian Scott Tickets

Ever-inventive and relentlessly curious, trumpeter Christian Scott combines instruments ancient and modern, acoustic  and electronic — and some completely new — in a genre-splitting new vision of where jazz can travel. Following his genre-melting set at last year’s Festival, Scott returns with a new band, new album, and new sound.

‘Scott and his band are looking to not just impress you, but blow you away with a combination of volume and virtuosity’ (The Prickle)

Mammal Hands open the show with their hypnotic fusion of jazz, folk and electronica, performing from their new album Floa (out on Gondwana). Drawing on influences from Sufi and shamanic African trance music, Irish and Eastern European folk music, to Steve Reich and Philip Glass and more contemporary electronica influences, the trio’s music is built around deceptively simple sounding ideas that are lent power through the use of repetition and rhythmic loops. They have been compared to both Portico Quartet and GoGo Penguin for the way in which they navigate the choppy waters between contemporary dance music and jazz.
