ATTICA RAGE was formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 2003 by Ayrshire brothers Richie Rage [drums] and Jonny Parr [vocals, guitar] with Colin ‘Big C’ Walls [bass, vocals]. The line-up was completed in 2007 by Stevie Bell [guitar]. They are gaining wide-spread recognition and word-of-mouth reputation for their powerful live shows across UK and Europe.
Following an early demo in 2004 and their 2005 In Concert With The Mirror EP, it was October 2008 that saw the release of self-financed debut album Ruin Nation on the band’s own label Vanduara Records. The album was produced by Big C, mastered by Ace of Skunk Anansie and features artwork designed by iconic Motörhead artist Joe Petagno. The track Dark City (with a bonus cover of Motörhead’s Overkill) was released as a download-only single and video in May 2009, charting at No.1 on the TuneTribe Metal Charts and No.2 on their Download Charts. Ruin Nation was an Album of the Month in Music News Scotland and Metal Hammer and the track Attica Rising was also featured on a Metal Hammer cover-mount CD.
A growing reputation and loyal fan-base has been built with their energetic live performances at headline shows, tours and festivals. Attica Rage have toured with Die Apokalyptischen Reiter and supported British metal icons Saxon, Diamond Head and Blitzkrieg as well as Armored Saint (with ex-Anthrax vocalist John Bush), Jorn Lande, Grinspoon, Betzefer, Voodoo Six and Mark E. Smith & The Fall. Festival highlights include Hard Rock Hell, Hammerfest, Download, Metalcamp Slovenia and HRH Road Trip Ibiza. Attica Rage have shared festival bills with Black Label Society, Down, Sepultura, Thin Lizzy, DevilDriver, Accept, Testament, Five Finger Death Punch, W.A.S.P., Helloween, Queensrÿche, Opeth, Grand Magus and Skindred amongst others.
In 2011, Attica Rage signed to Rocksector Records for the release of their second album Road Dog. The deal was signed live on-air on 96.3 Rock Radio in Glasgow, with DJ Tom Russell. Road Dog was released on 4 April 2011. The album was produced, engineered and mixed by roddymacaudio at The Tollhouse Studio and Titan Studios West in Glasgow, Scotland and mastered by Mike Tucci (Steve Albini, John Agnello) at Masterdisk, New York (Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Nirvana, Pearl Jam). Road Dog is a diverse collection of classic hard rock grooves, blistering metal riffs, powerful ballads, blues-infused biker rock plus a few extra surprises along the way.
Road Dog was officially launched at Hammerfest III festival in Prestatyn, North Wales in March 2011 including an album signing session and live showcase performance opening the main stage, complete with fire-breathers, dancers, angle-grinders and fireworks! Attica Rage have been confirmed for the Metal Hammer stage at High Voltage festival in Victoria Park, London on 23 July 2011 which features heavy metal legends Judas Priest, Slash, Thin Lizzy and Dream Theater. Other summer festival appearances include a week-long rock n’ roll holiday experience in Ibiza: HRH Road Trip – The Second Chapter between 29 May and 8 June and SOS Festival weekender in the Radcliffe Civic, Manchester on 17 July.
