This concert in aid of Food Banks is an attempt to raise awareness of one of the most pressing issues in present society: UK food poverty, and to collect food for those who - through no fault of their own - find themselves hungry in a horn of plenty. Food poverty in the UK is our responsibility - we are all part of the solution.

The ability to eat regularly and good quality food is a basic human right. It is self-evident that no rich, sophisticated western country such as the UK should have children, women, men, the infirm and the elderly going to school/work/bed each day without a full belly.

Food poverty in the UK is our responsibility - we are all part of the solution. My guess would be that austerity, recession and bad times will last much longer than anyone currently thinks, so we had better share the love and the plenty now.

Tickets cost just £3 + booking fee (all proceeds will go to Salford Central Food bank), and we are therefore asking that ticket holders also bring some food items from the list below, which will be also donated to Salford Central Food Bank.

It’s an all ages show and children are welcome (so long as they’re accompanied by a parent / guardian). Most of the people using Food Banks are families with small children, so it’s a great opportunity to involve kids who are fortunate enough to be cared for within a family who can afford to eat regularly and wholesomely. Think of it as a harvest festival…

A WORD FROM THE VENUE...
Food Bank usage statistics make deeply depressing reading; with dependency tripling, more than half a million people in the UK now access food banks with numbers rising. It's a startling figure and one where we can place blame firmly on onerous welfare cuts alongside nationwide recession (that's in the 7th richest country in the world where we throw away 23 billion pounds worth of food annually). However outrageous and saddening the cause and need may be, food banks have become a crucial resource for people and families denied help elsewhere, and commonly a desperate and final option. So the Ruby Lounge is more than happy to throw open its doors again for this awareness and fundraising event in aid of the fine work done by food banks everywhere - sadly this grim issue isn't going away any day soon.
